LB 368 updates ~ calls to actions

LB 368 copy found here

March 17, 2017

Well I wish I had better news,  This morning the legislature adopted the permanent rules which basically kept the temporary rules and made them permanent … What does that mean to us?  It is like this our hope was that the rules committee would decide to change the cloture ruling … If they had then we would have had an argument (since we only lost by one vote).  Now that the rules have not changed ie it still takes 33 votes to overcome cloture, we don’t have much of a case.  We are now faced with the options to bring up a new bill next year and what other amendments may be struck or how convincing we can be in the meantime.  We know where they all stand now as in every election with new senators the first vote tells the tale.  I do think we have some opportunity to succeed and I have been getting some great ideas that we can all work on this year since this is a down year for elections.  We will talk about those at the next BOD … Right now we should all have started sending thank you letters to those senators that voted for cloture … and questioning those that did not vote … Let your senators know whom voted against us how you feel as well … let them know you will remember, next election.

Fyi not dead yet!

----
See article below. Larson has filed this reconsideration motion so it's up to
the Speaker to reschedule it.

Now...just because Larson is back doesn't mean we can hang onto Craighead or
Riepe. They were helping in Tysons absence. So it's back to Schumacher and Harr
for a yes votes.

All,

Thanks for your work this weekend on getting the FB shares and the message out … just an fyi we have hit over 8600 likes and 129 shares … those that helped in Kearney as well thanks we were able to talk to quite a few groups that should help spread the word … main thing here is if when we need help we will have a quick group to reach out to.  Just keep it up for 3 more days …

As I said before it really looks like Wednesday will be the vote … Tuesday will be the biggest debate day so if you can take a day off … that would be the one.  Again please keep the message going that we want people in the balcony and we want to have names/numbers etc. from them (check in with Senator Lowe’s office) will likely be just a sign in sheet that we can refer to

Keep the faith this hurdle is only for 3 days more … cannot let up now.

Folks,

we are down to the wire with a 3 day weekend ahead of us ... there is a storm brewing and I do not mean the weather.  Our opponents are hot on the job working diligently to distract, amend and destroy our chance at freedom .... LB 368 the bill to amend the helmet law and allow adult riders to choose to wear one or not is on the line.

Will you fight or will you sit back and do nothing?

I have been given this list of tasks for ABATE of Nebraska and any other organizations or individuals out there that want to fight for their freedom. I for one will fight. I am challenging everyone to spend the next 3 days sharing posting and working to make sure the right people hear this message.

These senators need to hear from their constituents:

- PLEASE CONTACT YOUR SENATOR ONLY!!!!

Sen. Kolterman                         mkolterman@leg.ne.gov            402-471-2756
Sen. Bostelman                         bbostelman@leg.ne.gov             402-471-2719
Sen. Blood
cblood@leg.ne.gov                   402-471-2627
Sen. Vargas                              tvargas@leg.ne.gov                  402-471-2721

Sen. McDonnell                         mmcdonnell@leg.ne.gov           402-471-2710
Sen. Baker                                rbaker@leg.ne.gov                    402-471-2620

We need to ask them
for a Cloture vote and Present-Not-Voting or a No vote on any bracket or IPP motion. This has been fought for 30+ years and we just want an up or down vote on the actual bill.

- All emails need to be respectful and positive

- Include Full Name, Address and phone number

We would LOVE for the balconies at the Capital to be full on Monday and Tuesday. As stated before we want you to check in at Senator Lowe's office with ABATE (room #1528), We will create a list of names/numbers so that if we need someone to talk to their senator we can grab you ...

If you know your senator is with us a quick note of thanks would not hurt either...

I will post a similar message on Facebook … please share that message and not this one …

Let me know if you have any questions call anytime and leave a message as I've been fielding calls all day.

You can send this email out to everyone.

Everyone,

If you tuned in today to listen to testimony some of you may be very angry … Senator Lowe did a good job but Hilkeman used his inexperience against him … I guarantee he will come out swinging with a bit of help and in some ways this long weekend could be a good thing giving him time to prepare …

Right now I do not want everyone going off on their senators there were some things said … that pissed me off … this quote from Hilkeman referring to the freedom issue response to lowe “ the best freedom  is that we allow motorcycles on the road” … yep he said that

Now there is also an amendment by him to move the age from 6 to 16 … and some of the supporters may surprise you … again I caution you about shooting us in the foot right now … we need controlled and precise arguments to win this I am preparing some information on kids racing to deliver … already sent some showing that AMA allows competition at 4 … remember none of these people are bikers … (despite hilkemans comments) … I am pressing to give us some tasks from Lowe and the team. So bear with me I hope to have a plan by tomorrow of what we need to do over the weekend.  Be ready

here is the plan :

I would encourage anyone and everyone to come to sit in the balcony and show support for the bill likely to hit the floor Thursday or as late as Monday (Friday is a recess day) and be on the floor for at least 2 if not 3 days … However … when going to the Capital I am asking those willing to be more involved please stop into Senator Lowe’s office Check in with your name – phone number – your senator’s name.  We will then have quick access to a person that can be called or texted to go with someone (the aid, Senator Lowe, the lobbyist etc) and as a constituent talk with your Senator in support of Lb368 … all we are asking is to coordinate the effort.  Wait in the balcony and have your phone on vibrate for a text.

Dates are changing faster than I can email them out …

March 8, 2017

We need individuals who live in Senator Kolterman's district (York, Seward and Polk Counties) to email or call his office in support of LB368. If they email they need to include their physical address so he knows they are his constituent. IT IS IMPORTANT THAT IT BE INDIVIDUALS FROM HIS DISTRICT ONLY!

District 24
Room #2004
P.O. Box 94604...
Lincoln, NE 68509
Phone: (402) 471-2756
Email: mkolterman@leg.ne.gov

Keep emails upbeat, positive, and personal.

Thanks!

This from Jessica

“Hey guys, I wanted to give everyone an update. This freshman class is AMAZING to work with (especially Sen. Lowe and his staff!). …

…REMEMBER all votes are subject to change until they go up on the board - we have a FANTASTIC team (Sen. Lowe, Patrick and myself) working this and I would hate for someone to come in and screw that up. If people want information, I would suggest that everything go through Patrick (if he has questions I know he will run it past me). I see 33 votes in our future as  long as we all stay on the same page and work together.”

Feb 24, 2017

I was hoping to get the official word before sending this however, I did not want this to go till Monday … At our GOP dinner last night in talking with Senator Lowe he has stated he will prioritize LB 368.  He had planned to today but I have not received official word as of yet … This is great news, at this time I believe there is only one other priority bill (though that could change today) which means it will likely get an early chance on the floor and possibly next week be in debate.  Plan on several calls to action on the bill, we have some work to do to make this happen and there may be specific senators we need to target on any given day … right now Omaha is our biggest area of need with 3 senators requiring contact by their constituents asap …

Senators McDonnell, Vargas and Blood … though Blood has voiced support we have been asked to have some retired or active military to contact her to shore up her vote.

As always keep your eyes on the media … channel 8 did an interview with me at the bike show and I have to say it was the best feature I’ve ever seen them do for ABATE … (its posted on Facebook if you want to watch) but all media has generally been our enemy … and even that “good” interview has had its backlashes … I have already received 2 calls to the office from anonymous people telling me how this does affect them that their insurance will go up if this law is repealed and they both planned to call each and every senator to make sure the law does not change! … I know very frustrating I cannot even rebut these folks … blocked calls etc. … but the polls will show up … and we all know what they can do to us … be prepared inform me asap!

Do not get into pissing matches on Facebook … senators watch these like everyone else … be respectful tell our opponents where they are wrong but stick to the facts … let our opposition get mad and sound the idiot.  things are likely to happen fast … stay alert, in touch and in tune.

Ok,

As you know we have a favorable committee and we have had several bill options on the table waiting to determine whom would carry the bill …

I’ve been given the go ahead to let everyone know that the bill should drop today or tomorrow … It will be carried by Senator John Lowe

The bill will be a 21 and over with eye protection and as suspected we will have to add a Kiddie portion (Lydia would not support unless it was added from the beginning) so it will have a child law 6 and under cannot ride …

Senator Lowe is very excited to take on this bill and that says a lot for you in his district ! … and a huge swing from the previous Senator representing you!

Jessica is still working this and is the biggest reason we have a bill ready to drop this soon …
